Its cold and rainy outside so a trip to the movies should keep the troops happy.
Brave is the 10th original Disney/Pixar film and the first to have a female lead (yeh!!) Directed by Andrew and Brenda Chapman, and produced by Katherine Sarafian, "Brave" is a grand adventure full of heart, memorable characters and signature Pixar humour. We loved Merida, a fiery young red head teenager who struggles with finding herself, with creating her own destiny. I identified strongly with her and also see a lot of my daughter Lola in her. It's a store of courage and above all bravery. Very much loved King Fergus played by the hilarious Billy Connolly.

The bravest thing I have done was to stay strong for our very sick baby (6 months in hospital) while we mourned his twin brother. Was a very rocky journey which has continued his entire 14 years as he has 15 specialists. I have continued to have to stay strong and brave.
ReplyDeleteMy second bravest thing was offering to care for a family of 5 kids, locals we didn't know who were all lower primary and preschool age with youngest being 1yo, for 1 day (while their mum went up to visit their father who had had a serious car accident) but end up looking after them for 4 weeks in my home...beds everywhere lol.
What a lovely thing you are doing to give a family the chance to see the movie :-)

I am soooo scared of sharks - I dont swim in the ocean cuz I automatically think I will one of the unlucky ones who will get bitten or eaten by a shark. One of my biggest fears.
ReplyDeleteMy now fiance surprised me with a snorkelling adventure out in the outer great barrier reef. I was horrified.
I even cried trying to convince him I couldnt do it. The entire way out there and for about 2 hours when we got there I was determined not to get into the water. He finally convinced me to get in - I didnt want to get out after that LOL.

I guess the bravest thing for me is to have chosen my career path as an Embryologist, have to say handling embryos is a risky business...but definitely a fulfilling one when couples fall pregnant.

The bravest thing I have done is give birth to my first son at the age of 21, after I had been told he had a 1 in 5 chance of having Down Syndrome. Doctors tried to tell me to terminate but lucky I didn't listen he is a healthy Beautiful 5 yr old now :)))

I'm not really very brave at all but probably 2 things I can think of is having our 2nd child with no drugs at all - brave or silly not sure! 2nd thing was being in Thailand for our honeymoon & I ordered fish & got the whole entire thing - eyeball & all - wasnt brave enough to eat the eye - just ate around it.

I am brave everyday. I beleive we all are. We are told how to live, whats right from wrong then... we grow up. No one else is in control of our lives and we have to find meaning from somewhere sometimes just to pull ourselves out of bed each morning. I began to find meaning when I had my daughter Kalina "rowan tree" then two years later my life became whole. I had Jude, my "warrior" and later finding out St Jude was the patron saint of lost causes which is exactly what I thought I was..a lost cause! Now, with my family I live a full and exciting life never forgetting the past but always moving forward. I didn't know anyone and couldn't speak the language and really had no idea what I was doing. It was something I needed to do for my own confidence as I'd always done things for other people and just felt like a shadow to others. ReplyDeleteThe bravest thing I have ever done I have done 4 times...and that is get my wisdom teeth out under local anaesthetic! It was a truly awful experience, but I returned 3 times after the first time! The dentist thought it was hilarious when I told him that I find childbirth nowhere near as scary lol!

ReplyDeleteThe bravest thing i have ever done is to stand beside my extremely ill husband, with two tiny little boys 18mth & 3mth, while he endured endless hospital stays which resulted in two major operations, in a two year period, and get through the other end intact with a healthy man beside me and two beautiful healthy boys who have their dad alive and well...giant experince but we remain brave for our families and come out stronger and better in the end!!!

ReplyDeleteI tried to win tickets for my daughter to go and see the voice and I had to sing part of a song on the radio I can't sing it's like nails on a chalk board. I didn't end up winning but it made me get out of my comfort zone. I found it more stressful than giving birth. Jayne.neubauer@sa.gov.au
ReplyDeleteI think there is a little bit of bravery in everyday, some bits more dramatic than others. One of our most recent was explaining my Mum's terminal illness with my 10year old. Staying strong and calm, being honest, giving some but not all details, looking for positives and keeping it together as sobbed in my arms. Maybe that's not bravery, it's probably just parenting.

ReplyDeleteAt age 15 I stood up to a threatening customer whilst working at Mc Donald's, telling 'Sir' how it was whether he agreed or not. The store owner later heard about it and tried to fire me. I said "ok, if you are prepared to lose a valuable employee then that's your choice, but in your shoes I would ask me what actually happened". Very brave on both counts. Thankfully both discussions went my way, but I still feel brave when I think of it decades later. nandktomlin@internode.on.net
ReplyDeleteLeaving home at age 17 to live with relatives on the other side of the world; they were a bit cruel to me so I had to move out and live in a tiny bedsitter (unit) by myself, work at a local hotel and walk back to the unit late at night in the dark, being followed on a few occasions. One time I heard noises outside my place so I got up the courage to open the front door and look outside...the next morning I found the window had been tampered with and someone had tried to break it but hadn't got the window open far enough to climb into my place. I had to stick something into the window to stop it being opened and had to go to sleep each night hoping nobody would break in. I am glad that I sleep more securely these days!
